J.V. Collier. My musical mentor, great friend, and just a ridiculous musician. J.V. has been Bruce Hornsby's bassist for over 13 years now.
Carlos Almeida is an amazing drummer and the best bandleader on the planet. He runs two very successful bands and it's always an honor and a treat to work for and play with Carlos. Silicon Vibe is the large group, and this band just ROCKS! Jazz By Design is a made-to-order ensemble for smaller venues and events.
Jim McCrae. A wonderful guy and a musical savant. We played together in CrossCurrent, a terrific quartet that ventured into everything from funk to bop to nasty swamp music. :) I am still mad at Jim for moving the whole way to the other coast! I miss hanging out with him just as much as I do playing music with him...he truly has a unique voice on the guitar and I'm very lucky to have played with and learned from him.
Ed at Gelb Music is an absolutely amazing resource. There isn't anything about basses and amplification that he doesn't know. Plus he's a wonderful guy and a great musician.
Rocio....my favorite singer, a true delicate flower, and an incredible friend. If she wasn't so busy as a musician and teacher, she'd be one of them rocket surgeon type-people...her IQ is higher than my SAT score. :)
Hoffman's in Santa Cruz. What a place! Wonderful folks who support live jazz. And the food....it's ridiculous. Great continental cuisine with some authentic and mouth-watering German dishes as well. And then there are the desserts. Bring your appetite!
Times 4 - just a smokin' band, with two of my favorite musicians. Greg Sankovich and Lincoln Adler. Maurice and Kevin are the perfect drums & bass combo for this band. Catch 'em live, and buy their CD's....you won't be disappointed.
I met Kurt Ribak when he was playing at my father-in-law's wedding last year. He is an amazing bassist. Tone, chops, ears, and did I mention tone? Plus he's one of those cats that knows every tune ever written. When a singer calls something, he doesn't say, "What book is that in?" He says, "What key?" For this reason, I hate him. :)
This site is hosted by SMRN. Great folks with big brains.
